Here is how it works, you plug it in for the first time to the USB port of your computer, while the computer is on of course, and give it a nice 6 hour charge(important) After that you can charge it with solar or even slowly with indoor lighting.
The unit is much more powerful than the first generation of portable solar products, the case is waterproof, I don't think you can swim with it!!
It will power for about 4-6 hours of use after the sun goes down... this is a great camping or hunting product since you can use it so many ways.
